About this Event

Parkscapes is a seasonal public art-making program that brings together neighbours around select Brampton parks. There, through accessible, all-ages, hands-on collaborative workshops, they strengthen community bonds and create temporary artworks and performances.

Every Thursday in July and August, join Brampton artist and dancer Enakshi Sinha in Chinguacousy Park for a free outdoor dance and movement workshop. This workshop series invites all community members, regardless of age, experience or ability, to explore movement through sensory observation, storytelling, rhythm, and collaborative creativity.

Throughout the workshop series, you will engage in mindful outdoor practices, learn foundational elements of Odissi dance, and co-create movement inspired by the wind, trees, water, and light. The workshop series will finish with a site-specific open-air performance. With the park itself as the stage, we'll celebrate cultural expression, community connection, and creativity in nature.

Weekly Workshop Themes:
Thursday, July 9 & July 16 - Nature Exploration Workshops

Take part in a mindful walking exercise during which you will be led through guided observations and sensory activities as you explore how nature can inspire movement and creativity.

Thursday, July 23, July 30, & August 6 - Movement Workshops

Learn foundational Odissi dance techniques such as posture, rhythm, gestures, and expressive movement, all while inspired by the nature that surrounds us.

Thursday, August 13 & August 20 - Choreography Creation Workshops

Collaborate with fellow workshop participants to develop site-specific dance sequences inspired by natural elements such as wind, water, trees, and light.

Thursday, August 27 - Community Performance

Take part in an open-air performance where the park itself becomes the stage with your fellow workshop participants. We will bring together everything we've learned and done over the course of this workshop series into a celebratory performance for family and friends.

Join us for evenings of exploration, movement and creativity. Bring the entire family and learn together!

This workshop series is for all ages and experience levels. All are welcome to participate.
