Parish Safeguarding Officer Induction

This course is primarily for newly appointed PSOs but is also suitable for those who want to refresh their knowledge in the role.

It is a requirement that delegates should complete both the Basic and Foundation online courses prior to attending this induction session. The safeguarding Leadership course should be completed soon afterwards.

The course will be facilitated by Diocesan Safeguarding Adviser Sean Augustin and will cover the following:

- Understand the role, responsibilities and working relationships of the PSO, including the Local Authority, Diocesan Safeguarding Adviser (DSA) and Parochial Church Council (PCC).

- Identify a variety of approaches to raising awareness & improving safeguarding practice

- Evaluate safeguarding information reported by members of the church or community and determine an appropriate response

- Create a plan for local ministry to support development of safeguarding practice in their context.

Delegates will be sent an information pack two weeks prior to the course. This will include links to materials that must be read before joining the session.
