About this Event
ABOUT THE EVENT
The Paris bistro is at its heart an unpretentious neighborhood gathering place serving traditional French cuisine, sometimes also with a bar counter. In this illustrated lecture, Gary Lee Kraut will tell us about the development of the traditional neighborhood bistro (le bistrot de quartier) in Paris over the past 150 years and its current place in the restaurantscape of the French capital.
We will hear about various organizations, formal and informal, devoted to defending and promoting traditional bistros and cafés as essential vectors of sociability and art-de-vivre à la française. Gary Lee Kraut will also introduce us to some of the owners, patrons, dishes and wines that are a part of his own Paris bistro life and that you, too, can meet and enjoy on your next trip to Paris.
EVENT FORMAT
Doors open at 6:30pm. Lecture starts at 7:00pm and will be followed by Q&A and a light reception.
