What are parental rights and how can a parent exert them as it relates to the mental health and upbringing of their child?

Hear from and interact with a series of professionals and experts on the subject of parents' rights and parental consent.

WHEN: Tuesday May 30th from 2:00pm - 3:30pm

VENUE: The event will take place in the Chapel at the Church of Scientology Tampa: 1300 E 8th Avenue, Tampa FL 33605. This facility is also known as Ybor Square, the Oldest and largest Cigar Factory in Florida.

During the 2021, 2022 legislative sessions, Florida lawmakers passed several laws that greatly increased the protection of children and parental rights. To ensure that parents are aware of those and are able to exert them, the Citizens Commission on Human Rights of Florida is hosting a complimentary forum.

This forum is designed to be a platform for community advocates, professionals and citizens concerned with parental rights and mental health human rights abuses.

We will bring up issues related to parental consent, the use of invasive psychiatric treatment of adult patients and minors. We want to spark discussions, bring about actions in order to get positive results. Everyone should be able to find new resources, share similar experiences and eventually advocate.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

1. To understand some of the basic rights parents have in Florida.

2. To learn about the Baker Act and how minors can be affected by this process.

3. To review options and action steps parents can take to prevent and protect their kids from mental health human rights abuse.

HOST:

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights of Florida (CCHR) is a non-profit, non-political, non-religious mental health watchdog organization dedicated to the restoration of human rights in the mental health industry.
