About this Event
Parent Leadership in a Polarized Culture: Leading children through the world of right/wrong, good/bad towards greater acceptance
Our culture has been brewing in bitterness and divisiveness for quite some time. With the upcoming election, polarity and division are increasing by the minute. At Traverse Counseling & Consulting, GBC, we see families (clinically and our own families) impacted by the culture of polarization. The deepening of entrenched positions asks people to ‘pick a side.’ We want to be able to assist parents and communities in navigating interpersonal relationships, families, and neighbors without participating in the deepening of entrenched positioning. In fact, how can we invite people out of our teams/tribes so that we can see the humanity of the “other”? These presentations seek to provide tools for individuals and families to understand the “traps” they fall into and engage in conversation in ways that break the division cycle and invoke curiosity and care.
Learning Objectives:
Partipcants will Gain:
- Deeper understanding and appreciation for how we arrive at our differences.
- Greater insight on the impact that polarization has on individuals and families.
- The difference between high conflict and good conflict.
- Why and how we get “hooked” into high conflict that perpetuates division in our relationships.
- Learning tools for navigating these differences in family, friendships, and coworker relationships.
