A much-needed afternoon with community organisations brought together to upskill, empower and support parents.
About this Event

SIRG is a grassroots black-led advocacy organisation set up to challenge the inequality in the high number of exclusions of young people in the black community. We also provide training, information, support and guidance in matters relating to mental health. Our clients are mainly from the black community, who are disproportionately affected on every measure in the borough, notwithstanding the effects of COVID. We understand that there are differences within the black community in terms of educational outcomes. However, there remains clear evidence of inequity and discrimination which culminates in a far greater number of exclusions and suspensions within it.

Our ultimate goal is to empower and build confident parents/carers ready to engage in strengthening our community. To that aim, we have planned this exciting Parent Expo.

The Parent EXPO is organised in partnership with:

  • UBUNTU
  • Lewisham Education Group (LEG)
  • The Black Parent Associations UK (BPAUK)
  • Lewisham Young Leaders Academy

We have gathered together people and organisations in the room from whom you can learn, be upskilled, and become confident and knowledgeable when advocating for your child. You will be able to learn from their experience in specific areas of education and ask essential questions about what you can do for your child.

Parents/Carers must be included in their child’s educational journey. At times parents can feel lost, stressed and overwhelmed by the adverse effects of the education system. In most successful cases, when parents are included from the outset, the intervention strategies are more successful, creating a galvanised and empowered community.

Put the 10th June 2023 in your diaries and join us at St Andrews Church in Brockley for an afternoon of discussions designed to empower and grow your knowledge. Food will be provided.

Whether you are a Parent, Carer, Aunty, Uncle, Grandparent, Godparent, Friend or Neighbour, our Children are the responsibility of us all.

Register your interest and save your place; we can not wait to meet you!

If you are an organisation that would like to participate on the day with a table, stand and flyers, please contact us via email at [email protected] Spaces are limited, so do not delay
