About this Event
The theme for this meet up is:
"School attendance and mental health"
Dr Jo Billington from the Wellbeing Hub, along with Dr Ruth Moyse, will be presenting aspects of their research with autistic children in mainstream primary schools and inviting discussion on the themes raised.
About Dr Ruth Moyse:
Ruth is a highly experienced trainer facilitator, course developer and mentor with over twenty years’ experience in education. She is the Head of Training and Co-Production at AT-Autism, and most recently was the Co-Director of the NHS-funded National Autism Trainer Programme in England.
A teacher by profession, her research interest lies in the education of autistic children and young people, particularly the female experience, and more widely in autistic mental health and wellbeing. Ruth is an advocate for participatory research and the co-production of knowledge and chooses creative methods of engagement and collaboration.
She is a Visiting Fellow at the University of Southampton, where she is a member of the Autistic Community Research Network (ACoRNs), and sits on a number of neurodiversity advisory boards and research steering groups in the UK and Europe. In addition, Ruth is a Trustee of the John and Lorna Wing Foundation, and part of the Information Autism editorial board. She is also autistic.
Description
Hosted by the Centre for Autism Wellbeing Hub at the University of Reading in partnership with Reading-based charity Parenting Special Children, these relaxed monthly meet-ups offer parents and carers of autistic children a welcoming space to connect, share experiences, and gain valuable insights from the latest autism research conducted at the University of Reading and beyond.
Each session begins with a brief talk from a member of the Wellbeing Hub team related to the monthly theme, followed by informal discussions where families can discuss their experiences, exchange knowledge and share expertise. Refreshments will be available.
Spaces are limited to allow for meaningful conversations and discussion, so we encourage you to book early to secure your spot.
