Omaha-based quartet Paper Canaries blurs the lines between Jazz, Funk, and Progressive Rock. Led by trombonist Shawn Bell, the group sets out to forge a new path for how instrumental music can engage listeners by featuring a mix of unconventional covers from artists such as Smashing Pumpkins, Prince, and The Foo Fighters alongside Bell’s unique original compositions. Mitch Towne, Bobby Scharmann, and Jeffery Johnson round out the ensemble to create a style the band has dubbed as Prog-Jazz. Paper Canaries’ debut self-titled EP can be found on all platforms in October 2024.
