Maria Campbell and Alyssa Wapanatâhk will share their experience, insights and thoughts on how Indigenous Women are represented in media today.
Maria Campbell is most widely known for her renown, bestselling 1973 memoir, Halfbreed (which was recently republished in 2019!). She has published 7 other books, the most recent Keetsahnak Our Missing and Murdered Indigenous Sisters, co-edited with Kim Anderson and @christi_belcourt . Her 8th book is finished and at the publishers. And she is finishing a new play.
A talented nehiyaw-iskwew actress, writer, filmmaker, public speaker, and activist, Alyssa hails from the Cree First Nation in northern Alberta. Alyssa's lifelong mission is to make her mark in a good way, spreading the message of “Akameyimok,” the Cree word for “Keep Going.” You may recognize Alyssa from her recent roles as the iconic “Tiger Lily” in Disney’s Peter Pan & Wendy (2023), Perseverance in the award-winning drama Bones of Crows and Lizzo in CW’s Riverdale Series
