About this Event
A book launch event and panel talk about sustainability in film and the book Green Filmmaking. The event will feature short talks from frontline experts in the green production movement and a brief reading from the book.
Each panel member will speak for about 15 minutes, and there will be an opportunity for Q&A and book signing.
About the participants:
Kent Hayward is an author, filmmaker, and professor of film production at California State University Long Beac. He has worked in editorial, visual effects, and production for over twenty years. A founder and executive committee member of the Green Film School Alliance, he has dedicated himself to the promotion of sustainability in his industry.
Heidi Kindberg is the VP of Sustainability for Warner Bros Discovery (HBO/MAX) and member of the Sustainable Entertainment Alliance. Kindberg wrote the introduction to Green Filmmaking and is working to lead to a cultural shift toward more sustainable behaviors both on- and off-screen.
Lena Welch is the owner of Next Earth and consultant to numerous Netflix and HBO productions. Welch’s consulting firm is aimed at decarbonizing the motion picture industry. She has held various roles in TV and film production, where she began seeing the solutions the entertainment industry can offer society.
Brian Ashenfelter is the Environmental Sustainability Manager at Disneyland and a professor of Environment and Sustainability. He believes that we all need a fearless accountability to the people and the planet using deep scientific insight to inspire design, tell memorable stories, and create compelling experiences that do not cause any unnecessary harm to our planet or the people that inhabit it.
