Talking to kids about se.ks: A conversation on joy, consent and shame-free parenting
Kids learn about bodies and se.ks whether we talk to them or not. The question is whether they learn from us, their friends, p0.rn0graphy, or guesswork.
Many of us grew up with sek.suality education focused mainly on reproduction, STIs, and preventing pregnancy, alongside a few awkward conversations with our parents. But what if these conversations could be different? What if we could approach sek.suality with openness, curiosity, and warmth rather than shame, fear, and warnings?
As parents, it can be difficult to navigate conversations we never had ourselves. What is age-appropriate? How do we respond to unexpected questions? And how can we talk about bodies, pl3asure, intimacy, and relationships while emphasizing boundaries and consent?
In this panel discussion, we'll explore how to create an environment where children feel comfortable asking questions, expressing curiosity, and developing a healthy understanding of sek.suality.
Our conversation will focus on:
-Openness over shame
- Bodies, boundaries, consent, and pl3asure
- Healthy sek.sual development and age-appropriate conversations
- No question too awkward
The conversation will be moderated by Cecilie Mueenuddin, a masculinity scholar with a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Oxford and a parent herself. She will be joined by sexologist Ingun Wik and Gerd Johanne Skjennum Sørensen, a community member and parent of a teenager.
There will also be space for questions, reflections, and contributions from the audience.
Whether you're a parent, planning to become one, or simply interested in rethinking how we approach sexuality education, you're welcome to join the conversation.
