oin us for the Pandemic Science in a Nutshell Talks, a lively evening of science, storytelling, and community engagement on Monday, July 27, from 5:30 p.m.- 6:30 p.m. at Conor O'Neill's Irish Pub in downtown Ann Arbor, Michigan. Come cheer on researchers working in pandemic preparedness, prediction, and prevention, who will take on a unique challenge: communicating their work to a public audience in only 90 seconds!

This fun, fast-paced, family-friendly event showcases researchers as they transform complex scientific ideas into engaging stories. From artificial intelligence and disease forecasting to public health preparedness, emerging infectious diseases, and ethics, speakers will share why their work matters and how it connects to everyday life.

A panel of judges will evaluate the talks and audience members will provide feedback, helping researchers strengthen their communication skills and better connect their science with the communities they serve. Whether you're a science enthusiast or simply curious about the future of pandemic preparedness, this event offers an interactive opportunity to engage with researchers and their work in the laid-back environment of Conor O’Neill’s Irish Pub!

Following the talks, guests and speakers will have the chance to mingle, ask questions, and connect with others interested in the intersection of science, communication, and society.

This free event is open to the public and hosted by the National Science Foundation's COMPASS Center in collaboration with the Center for Communicating Science at Virginia Tech and the University of Michigan.
