Exploring Covid-19’s impact on wealth, entrepreneurship, health, housing, employment and education, with an emphasis on solutions.
About this Event

Duke University faculty and other scholars affiliated with the Cook Center recently completed a book examining the racial, gender, and class issues related to the global pandemic. The forthcoming book, The Pandemic Divide: How Covid Increased Inequality in America will be published by Duke University Press and will be available for distribution in Fall 2022.

The corresponding conference from October 25-27, 2022 will feature scholars, practitioners, philanthropists, journalists, faculty and students, and other interested participants from the local community and regional and national publics, who all will come together at Duke University. The conference will explore Covid-19’s impact on wealth, entrepreneurship, health, housing, employment and education, with an emphasis on determination of steps that could have been taken to mitigate the full impact of a pandemic and offer concrete public policy solutions that would allow the nation to effectively respond to future crises.

This conference will disseminate important data and strategies outlined in the forthcoming book launched at the conference. It is anticipated that additional outcomes and deliverables will be generated from collaborations and relationships established and strengthen at the conference. In particular, the conference provides opportunities for the Samuel DuBois Cook Center to engage with historically black colleges and universities, tribal colleges, Hispanic Serving Institutions, community organizations and other grassroots non-profits around issues related to the Pandemic and health equity in general.
