The Pandeiro workshop will cover key concepts from Ami’s Mel Bay book, Pandeiro Basics, while focusing on the nuances between Rio-style samba, partido alto, and maxixe. We will explore how to master the tamborim levada and patterns for the pandeiro, along with different choro styles.Participants will analyze several choros to understand both the rhythmic theory and technical execution. We’ll also use these examples to explore how to make the rhythms musical and improvise within and around them.
The workshop will focus on three choros: 1 X 0 by Pixinguinha, Flor Amorosa by Joaquim Calado and Anacleto de Medeiros, and Receita de Samba by Jacob do Bandolim, as well as contemporary partido alto.
Pandeiros will be available for participants to use!
