Pan-Canadian OMOP Common Data Model Engagement Event

HDRN Canada, supported by ICES (an HDRN Canada member organization), IQVIA and INOVAIT (Sunnybrook Research Institute), is excited to announce that we are hosting an in-person pan-Canadian engagement event on the Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership (OMOP) common data model (CDM). It will bring together key Canadian organizations and teams involved in OMOP CDM transformation and research, laying the foundation for establishing the first Canadian OHDSI Regional Chapter within the global Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI) community.

Are you or your organization transforming your data into OMOP or conducting research with OMOP data in Canada? Are you interested in being part of the conversation to advance and coordinate OMOP CDM transformation across Canada? Join us for an engaging one-and-a-half days of networking, collaboration and moving the needle forward on health data interoperability and collaborative network studies. Come network with teams from across Canada, including the University of Calgary, Sunnybrook Research Institute, SickKids, IQVIA, University Health Network, GEMINI, McGill University and many more!

We are honoured to have our keynote speaker, , Senior Researcher in Epidemiology and Health Economics, Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Science at the University of Oxford, join us to speak to the benefits and opportunities of OMOP, engaging with the global OHDSI community, and building a national OHDSI node. He is an active member of the OHDSI network and brings his experience contributing to the European Health Data & Evidence Network (EHDEN) project and the Data Analysis and Real World Interrogation Network (DARWIN EU®).

About the Program Committee:

An initial Program Committee was convened to develop this strong program with HDRN Canada members Dr. Lisa Lix (Algorithms & Harmonized Data Working Group Chair), Dr. Georgina Archbold (AHD Operational Lead), Alison Park (epidemiologist), and David Yang (Operations Manager), as well as Dr. Evan Minty (Clinical Assistant Professor, Internal Medicine, University of Calgary and Co-Lead of OHDSI Surgery and Perioperative Workgroup), Dr. Anne Martel (Senior Scientist at Sunnybrook Research Institute) and Dr. Lilian Sung (Paediatric Oncologist and Clinician Scientist at SickKids).

Info: We are honoured to have our keynote speaker, Dr. Edward Burn, Senior Researcher in Epidemiology and Health Economics at the University of Oxford, join us to speak to the benefits and opportunities of OMOP connecting with the global OHDSI community, and lessons from building a national OHDSI network. Funded by HDR UK, HERON UK is a data network that currently includes seven data partners from across the United Kingdom. In this talk, Ed Burn will explain how the network was established, how data partners are supported to map data to the OMOP CDM, and plans to ensure the long-term sustainability of the network.

Info: The facilitated workshop will begin with presentations from Dr. Lillian Sung, Pediatric Oncologist and Chief Clinical Data Scientist at SickKids, and Brad Millson, General Manager, Real World Solutions from IQVIA, on successfully conducting collaborative studies using Canadian OMOP health data. This session will be followed by a facilitated workshop discussion around topics to build future capacity for OMOP network studies in Canada, including advancement in methodologies, challenges in transformation and vocabulary mapping, user uptake, and infrastructure needed for network research studies.

Info: A networking reception with appetizers and drinks will be held for in-person attendees at the SickKids Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning. Info: This plenary panel will bring together leaders from clinical, research, industry and government sectors to explore the adoption of the OMOP CDM in Canada. The discussion will address:

• Opportunities - Why organizations choose OMOP, and what benefits it brings in terms of interoperability, analytics and collaboration.

• Alternatives - Other large datasets or data models and their advantages/limitations.

• Challenges - Barriers to adoption, including funding, institutional buy-in, governance, technical capacity and privacy considerations.

• Enablers - Strategies to overcome barriers and promote national and international collaboration.

Info: This session will focus on generating ideas and agreeing on the goals, commitments and key outcomes for a Canadian OHDSI Regional Chapter.

Info: Dr. Jamie Gilbert, Associate Director in Epidemiology Analytics at Janssen Research & Development, will present on innovative tools and software demonstrations in the OHDSI community. This session will showcase tools that support and advance federated analysis and multi-regional studies in Canada.
