Triumph Thru Tears: The Power of Pamoja Documentary Premiere Screening
Triumph Thru Tears: The Power of Pamoja at UGA highlights Pastor Nawanna Lewis Miller, visionary & founder of five cultural creative arts and journalism at UGA in 1970 still thriving today. The film features current students, alumni, friends and supporter of UGA Pamoja groups.
Out of the painful void of exclusion, in October 1970, Nawanna Lewis, a Broadcast Journalism student, acted upon a vision God gave her to provide an artistic and creative avenue to express Black culture and an opportunity for students to author their own stories. Nawanna Lewis founded Pamoja Singers, Pamoja Dancers, Pamoja Drama and Arts, the Pamoja Newspaper, and the Journalism Association for Minorities
Triumph Thru Tears: The Power of Pamoja at UGA! shows how the vision of Nawanna Lewis, now Pastor Nawanna Lewis Miller has successfully served thousands of students, not just Black students, over more than five decades. The African American Choral Ensemble (AACE) originally Pamoja Singers; Pamoja Dance Company that began as Pamoja Dancers; Black Theatrical Ensemble (BTE), founded in 1975 by Larry Calhoun, a UGA graduate student, who reinvented the Pamoja Drama and Arts; InfUSion Magazine formerly Pamoja Newspaper and The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) formerly The Journalism Association for Minorities (JAM), all thrive after more than fifty. The documentary affirms Rev. Lewis-Miller's Habakukk 2 experience of "writing the vision on the wall" full circle.
