About this Event
“The world cannot survive if Israel keeps bombing it”
The struggle for climate justice and Palestinian liberation are deeply linked - we can and must fight for them together.
The current Israeli escalation of violence against the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples cannot be understood without looking at long-standing colonialist and imperialist interests in the Arab region’s resources, particularly fossil fuels.
This event will explore the ways in which fossil fuel companies are complicit in Israeli militarism and occupation and how seemingly ‘environmental’ projects have been used by Israel to further colonise Palestinian land.
We will hear how fighting for a just energy transition and climate justice in the Arab region means disrupting current systems that protect global and local political elites, multinational corporations and military regimes.
Join Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign and Friends of the Earth Scotland for an afternoon of speakers and music, exposing these connections, the common targets and find out about the campaigns that are tackling both issues.
Speakers and performances include:
Hamza Hamouchene, North Africa Coordinator at the Transnational Institute and co-editor of Dismantling Green Colonialism: Energy and Climate Justice in the Arab Region.
Manal Shqair, Palestinian climate justice activist and contributor to Dismantling Green Colonialism
Freya Aitchison, Oil and Gas Activism Officer at Friends of the Earth Scotland
Sofiah Macleod from Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign and the Stop the JNF Campaign
Music from the San Ghanny solidarity choir
