An evening of live music and poetry, set amongst an exhibition from a range of UK Artists, hosted by Bristol-based jazz-pop songwriter, poet and performer, Freddie Lewis. Inspired by their upcoming music and poetry release, Freddie has curated a collection of pale pink works of art.
The exhibition follows the meaning held within Freddie's June release 'Bell Jar / The Gallery' which looks at the comfort within and the letting go of structure; the imagining of something more. The exploration of pale pink hints toward Freddie’s ongoing relationship with gender and gender theory, and both supports and opposes the question which fuels the work. Through the manifestation of pale pink as a symbol of femininity and physical curation of the structural metaphor of ‘The Gallery’, Freddie observes the ways in which society is shifting and asks, ‘when dismantling of the structure, (how) do we move beyond using it to do so?’.
In ‘The Gallery’, Freddie writes:
‘We become so involuted that to observe that painting without precedent might be all we have left of candour. I'm stood with one foot in each partition so my body knows neither. I'm writing the outside in but vocabulary fails me at the threshold. I'm holding words under my tongue that haven't been written yet. The framed and the otherwise denounce the gallery in unison, by continuing to exist just a few yards away from each other. ‘
With support from the following acts, and poetry open mic slots available:
Lauren Jazmyn (8.15pm) - Laura Jazmyn is a contemporary pop/ indie Jazz singer from Tredegar, South Wales. Since the release of her first EP, she's enjoyed radio play from BBC Wales Arts Show, Radio WigWam, Canada Blues and Roots and Amazing Radio as well as many other stations too! She's also headlined her own gig at The Thunderbolt and taken part in The Swansea Fringe Festival, supporting gigs at Mr Wolf’s and Lost Horizon over the past few months.
Luna Kali (7.45pm) - Luna Kali is a Portuguese singer in love with Neo-Soul, R&B and Hip Hop. She moved from Lisbon to Bristol and is now exploring different styles and her own sound. She is inspired by her daily life, the social construct and by the people in it.
Brandon Vasilou (7pm) - Inspired by the likes of John Boyne and Ocean Vuong, Bristol based singer/songwriter Brandon Vasiliou sings of queer rebellion and heartbreak to the backdrop of acoustic guitar and dreamy melodic piano hooks. With a combination of soul and contemporary folk influence, Brandon creates a sound that is both nostalgic and compelling.
