About this Event

Spaces are limited so please book a time that works for you.
BACKGROUND
When Aisha Adi set up the Collective Gallery, she wanted to provide opportunities and build a community among artists and the wider public. Now an established part of St Albans, the Collective inspires creativity and makes art and culture accessible for all.
For the last few years, the wall on Drovers Way in St Albans has featured a mural and since 2022, this has been coordinated by the Collective Gallery. Below are a few examples:
· 2021: local artist Albert Clegg co-created a design with Maple Primary School - to support Team GB – as part of a national campaign led by Dame Denise Lewis DBE
· 2022: local artist Ant Steel created a magnificent tribute to Ukraine
· 2023: local artist Claire Spake created a work of art based on the theme of “connectedness”.
In 2024, the Collective Gallery has, once again, been given the opportunity to paint a new mural on this wall as well as creating a new mural for the corner of Waddington Road. This project will be led by Mandy Johnson who is one of the current Artists in Residence at the Collective Gallery.
THE CONCEPT
Both murals will be co-designed and painted with local residents.
· Drover’s Way Concept: Inspired by the theme of “St Albans present”, residents will be encouraged to share an idea, icon, object or image that means something to or about them and/or St Albans.
· Waddington Road Concept: Inspired by the theme of “St Albans past”, residents will be encouraged to share an idea, icon, object or image that means something to or about someone who used to live or work in St Albans or about the city itself.
