Learn to capture the essence and beauty of living things in paint! Realistic painting skills and techniques are emphasized as students create dramatic compositions of people, or animals, or both. Advanced topics in painting proportions, facial features, full body poses, skin tones, texture, fur, color theory, lighting and form, etc are covered. You will a learn a practical working process to create your own truly unique image in paint, including finding resources for inspiration and reference images, composing an original scene, working with values and color in a harmonious way, and making beautiful finishing touches via advanced techniques. Basic drawing experience is a plus, but is not required.
The cost is $99 for the 6 weeks. All supplies included in the price. We start classes on the week of March 13th, and go for 6 weeks but there’s an off week halfway through for spring break.
We also take payments from the following organizations: Athenian, Harmony, My Tech High, LAU and potentially Utah Education Fits All (please inquire with us to ensure on this one beforehand).
INSTRUCTOR:
Charis holds a BFA in Illustration from ArtCenter College of Design near Los Angeles. There she studied entertainment design as well as multiple forms of illustration and design. The summer after graduating, she interned at Film Roman, the animation company that makes the show The Simpsons. She has created storyboards for indie film projects as well as displayed her art in many major US cities. Teaching became her primary focus when she moved to Hawaii with her husband (stationed there with the Navy) and taught various art classes on multiple bases as well as in a hotel on Waikiki beach. She spent almost a decade on Oahu, so freediving and island life always inspires her personal paintings. She and her family moved to Utah in 2020 when they said goodbye to military life and now happily reside in Syracuse. She teaches both realistic and stylized drawing and painting in acrylics, gouache, and oils.
