About this Event
Workshop Description
Art beyond Petals: Painting Peonies from LifeA 2½-Day Oil Painting Workshop with Yelena Lamm
at Olena Chorna Fine Arts - Art Studio in Kitchener, Ontario
Join Yelena Lamm at Olena Chorna Fine Arts Art Studio in the charming town of Kitchener, Ontario for 2½ immersive days of floral painting focused on expressive brushwork, strong composition, luminous color, and the joyful complexity of these beloved flowers. Working from fresh floral arrangements, we will explore how to simplify and understand the structure of peonies while creating paintings full of movement, atmosphere, and life.
Throughout the workshop, students will strengthen their understanding of:
- bold, expressive alla prima brushwork
- color harmony and color temperature
- values and light
- floral structure and simplification of form
- creating movement and dynamic compositions
- the often-overlooked importance of leaves and stems
We will work primarily with a limited palette, with optional color expansion, helping students develop stronger, more unified paintings while still encouraging individual creativity and artistic voice.
The workshop includes at least three live demonstrations, including a special Friday evening demo, as well as extensive individual instruction. During student painting sessions, I will work one-on-one with each participant, meeting you at your current level and helping guide you forward in your artistic journey. Questions are encouraged, and I will openly share my process, techniques, and studio insights throughout the weekend.
Some painting experience is recommended, but enthusiastic beginners and first-time oil painters are warmly welcome.
Students are responsible for bringing their own supplies.
