Painting inspired by music and poetry - Art Workshop

During these workshops, you will learn how to create paintings in response to music and poetry. The artist Aurelie Freoua will show you how to use colours, shapes, movements and textures in order to express the emotions of the sound and words. You will explore how melodies and poems influence and inspire your way to paint through various art mediums and materials such as acrylic, watercolour, charcoal, ink or pastel. Everyone has their unique interpretations of the music and their own way to express visually their feelings. Aurelie will help you to develop your visual approach and compositions which can be abstract or more figurative. These classes will highlight that the colours/shapes we choose are often made by our unconscious and intuition. Although the workshop series are connected in subject matter, each workshop can be taken as a stand-alone class.

Aurelie Freoua is a French artist and performer working in London. Having completed an MA in Fine Art at Camberwell College of Arts, she collaborates with the Vortex Jazz Club and has improvised live painting in response to music during The London Jazz Festival. Aurelie curates and performs in multidisciplinary live performances called ‘Résonances’ merging visual art, musical performances, poetry and dance. She has illustrated album covers for Babel label and has created a mural painting ‘Misterioso’, which was the backdrop for ‘The Dancing Wall’ performance. She recently joined the team of Women in Jazz Media and has collaborated with South Hill Park Arts Centre on a multidisciplinary project 'Feeling the Beat'. Her paintings have been exhibited in group and solo shows in London and internationally.

Aurelie explores notions of the invisible and emotions through colours and harmonious compositions of form and light.
