About this Event
Who is this workshop for?
- Mamas and their children ages 5 years and up
- Childcare support provided for children younger than 5 years old (must RSVP, limited capacity)
Workshop Purpose/Intention:
Embracing nature is a beautiful way to learn about caregiving and growth. As you tend to a small plant, you cultivate a sense of responsibility and consistency, nurturing a living thing from a tiny seed into something vibrant. Create a personalized pot that will bring joy to your household and encourage you and your loved ones to grow your own plant with style!
What to Expect:
Get ready to get your hands dirty! You'll be planting your own seed, so feel free to bring your own gloves or an apron if you'd like. The acrylic paint we'll be using can leave a permanent mark on clothing, so it's a good idea to protect your clothes.
No prior knowledge or skill required. Materials provided.
Checkin: 10-10:30am
Time for getting settled, mingling and getting yourself a donation-based beverage from our friends Coffee Bueno popup!
About the Artist Facilitator:
San Jose native Elba Raquel wears many hats. An accomplished artist with a BFA in Illustration, an AS in Design, and an MA in Education she ignites young minds as a full-time High School Art Teacher. Elba Raquel's "fantastic realism" style is recognized for its rhythmic compositions and the juxtaposition of desaturated figures against vibrant backgrounds. Her work graces galleries throughout the Bay Area, and she brings her artistic energy to life at events and festivals with her immersive art organization, FAB Productions. With nine murals adorning San Jose's walls, Elba Raquel is a rising force in the city's art scene, constantly pushing her practice to new heights.Elba Raquel, mother of two boys, caretaker of over three dozen succulents and a ball python, dedicates herself to nurturing all her "babies". Her legacy isn't only etched on San Jose's walls, but in the loving, conscientious humans she's raising. She cultivates love, dismantles harmful emotional patterns, and embodies the strength of a working, community-centered family woman, showing her sons that success and healing are not bound by gender.
