An unveiling of the finished mural will be held on Friday, August 19 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. to celebrate the creation of the mural by participants of Paint the City.Through the hard work of AASD alternative education teachers, cultural support specialists, STAR coordinators, and art teachers, we received over 40 applications in under 2 weeks for Paint the City, a new summer course offering.
The course takes place at 2641 North Oneida Street where students are painting a 100+ foot mural.
Students were interviewed and 18 students were enrolled, 6 from each high school. This course is being taught by artist Irineo Medina in addition to three teachers from Appleton East, West, and North High Schools.
The course runs from Monday through Friday, August 8th-19th from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
In addition to learning valuable art skills, students will also benefit from regular visits by school staff, community leaders, and artists. These visits will be opportunities for students to learn from and connect with community members and will center identity and belonging.
The public is welcome to visit the site any afternoon up until August 19 to talk with the students and see the progress of the mural.
