Paint on my Pottery: Bud Vases w/ Sarah Riley Studio

Get ready for cherry blossom season and paint your own bud vase! Each participant will receive a small bud vase handcrafted by Sarah Riley on the potter’s wheel. She’ll provide all materials and instruction for you to personalize the vase with your own design and artistic touch. After the class, she’ll take the vases back to her studio, glaze them with a clear glaze to protect your design, fire them in the kiln, and they’ll be ready for pick up one week later! ---- p.s. for SMIDC staff: I could probably do multiple Paint on my Pottery -- bud vases, bowls, and mugs... just let me know what you think so I can get the forms made ahead of time :)

Artist and Educator, Sarah Riley, has been playing with clay and honing her craft since 2010. She combines the variety of techniques she’s collected over the last decade and infuses sculpture in her ceramic work. Fascinated by both function and form, her work aims to maintain elements of the process, movement, and the flexibility of the fresh clay in the final, fired product. She alters freshly thrown forms to hold the spontaneity of that present moment at the time of creation. She currently teaches 3D Art at The Field School in Washington, DC.
