Paint Like an Expressionist

For those who want to loosen up their paintings, and work in a free and uninhibited manner, this class is the one to take. With each lesson, we will take inspiration from those artists who are typically associated with expressionist painting, from the time of Edvard Munch, to early 20th century painters like Egon Schiele and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, along with American abstract expressionist painters, and those of our own time. This is an experimental, playful approach to making art where painting something “realistically” is not our primary intention.

We will discuss the idea of self-expression in art, and look at things in terms of their art-historical context. We will mainly use acrylic paint, but also work in oil pastels and other mediums. There will be a range of things to paint, working from life, imagination, as well as photographic reproductions.

These are tutored art classes, open to students of all abilities. A comfortable, sociable and encouraging atmosphere, for anyone who wants to improve their artistic skills and summon their creativity.

All material are provided, as well as tea and biscuits.
