On August 8th at 10am the Elk's Ballroom will welcome community for an author talk and a panel discussion, featuring local voices from those with lived experience – stories that will deepen our understanding of the foster care experience and spark action within our community.
In many places, challenges like homelessness, health crises, and justice system involvement can feel distant – but here in our community, they are visible every day.
We see them on our streets, in our emergency rooms, and in the systems so many are trying to navigate. And what we’re often witnessing are not isolated circumstances, but the long-term impact of early instability – experiences that begin in childhood, including time in foster care.
Pages of Perspective is a community-wide reading initiative designed to change how we see foster care in our own neighborhood. We’re taking Claudia Rowe’s powerful book, Wards of the State: The Long Shadow of American Foster Care, and distributing FREE copies all over Jefferson County all the way to Clallam Bay. Read it. Reflect on it. Pass it along.
