His musical ethos was conventional, but his approach was utterly contemporary. He worshipped K. L. Saigal but amalgamated Western vocal techniques in his singing style.

Even current-day commercials, which feature his songs, do not modify his well-loved and timeless voice. His singing spanned the entire gamut of emotions from poignant to peppy-from Zindagi ka Safar to Zindagi Ek Safar.
