Regardless of his co-option by the British state, Paddington bear remains a powerful symbol for the right of freedom of movement. At this time of rising hostility towards migrants and refugees, Paddington (2014) holds a quietly powerful message of fighting prejudice (with a hard stare) and the absurdity of borders.
Join us at the Chesterfield Labour Club on December 19th for our last screening of the year. Doors open from 7pm with the film starting around 7:15. Entry is free. Donations are appreciated. Any money we make above the cost of the event will be donated to the North Derbyshire Refugee Support Group.
