Pack Walk *Now at Nehring Forest Preserve

Please note the pack walk is now taking place at P A Nehring Forest Preserve at the address 380 E Bethany Rd, DeKalb, IL 60115.
This location was chosen as it is much more shaded for summer weather. The trail is shorter but we will do two loops. All dogs are welcome, but Please follow these important rules to keep everyone safe.
1. Dogs must remain leashed at all times
2. No retractable leashes
3. If your dogs is at risk of slipping a collar please use a harness and have two leashes. Check your collars and make sure they are tight enough.
4. Do not attend if you don’t not feel confident in your handling skills and cannot maintain at least 6 feet of distance from another dog.
5. Dogs MAY NOT sniff or enter the space of another dog unless permission is given from BOTH owners.
6. Muzzles are welcome and will not be stigmatized.
7. Treats as training tools are encouraged and allowed.
We spend about 10 mins acclimating the dogs, working on a little bit of training, practicing turns, changes of direction, and focus on the owner before joining up as a group. I am not a professional dog trainer, but have lots of experience with a variety of dogs and dog behavior. Everyone joins at their own risk and is responsible for the actions of their own dogs. Ideally, your dog should understand leash manners and be used to going for walks. If your dog never leaves the back yard, you’re going to want to work up to doing a pack walk. We also ask that you know your dog limits, there is no shame in trying it and not walking with the pack if it is too much for your dog. My goal is to creative positive experiences for dog encounters. Some dogs may do better up front, and some in the back, feel free to speak up and advocate for your dog, we will do our best to accommodate the needs of everyone. Please note If we witness lack of control or dangerous behavior we will ask you not to participate. The trail is partially shaded, but not fully so bring water if you feel your dog might need it.
