Club Havana is back for a very special occasion, the opening of the amazing Coda Club!! We can’t wait to show you the fresh vibe and feel of this outstanding venue, everyone involved at this event want to thank Coda Club managers Christina Morrison and Al Smith for making this possible with their hard work and genuine care for the survival of live music and cultural life of this city.
This is an event dedicated to the history of popular Cuban music, the island of Enrique Jorrin, Arsenio Rodrigues, Miguel Matamoros, Celina Gonzales, Celia Cruz, Benny More and many other legendary musicians, where you will enjoy the endless universe of rhythms originated from the island of music and perceive that particular and engaging sound that made this music unique and internationally popular.
Pablo Cardenas and The West Coast Cuban Orchestra will show you a great variety of rhythms and musical genres originated in Cuba from the roots to the most modern tendencies. Those sounds that represent the particularities of Cuban music, also represent Latin music in a big part, like the traditional Son, Cha cha, Salsa, Danzon, Mambo, Conga, Rumba, Bolero and more.
The main purpose of this event is giving the best Cuban music more exposure in this area of the world, from the roots to the most modern tendencies. Come ready to experience those classic Cuban melodies which although many are familiar with, another valuable portion of them has not been heard much around here. For different reasons Cuban music has not been promoted around the world like it should be, one of the missions of Club Havana is giving it the exposure it deserves in this area of the world.
The amazing Christina Morrison will be offering a dance class and her dance screw “Salsa Caliente” will perform at the break time.
This will be an evening to not miss with an all stars lineup of musicians and special guests, made to give you a fresh and international Cuban sound.
About the artists
The West Coast Cuban Orchestra was created in 2011 by the internationally renowned Cuban Pianist and Composer Pablo Cardenas.
On a trip to Vancouver Island for a performance he unexpectedly decided to stay for a while and met a few musicians that inspired him to start the band, developing it as one of his main musical projects with the purpose of keeping the Cuban music roots alive in North America while adding the influence of other musical tendencies like jazz fusion and certain African rhythms and sounds.
He also wanted an eclectic line up with members from different cultural and musical backgrounds to enrich even more the sound of the project.
Although Pablo’s main artistic priority was still his most experimental jazz projects, he has continued to develop this band once he has made Canada his main area of residency in the last few years, and saw that the project kept having a high level of demand performing at the most important festivals and venues of the region.
