GETTING THERE AND AWAY: OXFORD CITY WALKABOUT

By Coach:

Oxford Tube coaches:

If you are travelling in from London the Oxford Tube is an excellent affordable way of travelling into Oxford. Please alight at Gloucester Green Coach Station which is the closest to the meeting point outside Said Business School Park End Street, Oxford OX1 1HP (near Oxford Railway Station) if you are joining the walk at 10.30am.

If you are only joining us for the After-party alight by Carfax Tower on High Street and walk down towards Ivy Restaurant and walk 20 yards down Alfred Street. St Columba's Church is two doors away from The Bear pub.

By Car:

For a car journey from London to Oxford, the most common route is via the M40 motorway. The drive is approximately 60 miles and takes between 1.5 and 2 hours, though traffic conditions—especially during peak hours—can increase this. Once you arrive, you should plan for parking outside the city centre, as driving and parking downtown are difficult.

Recommended route

• Take the A40 out of London towards the M40 motorway.
• Follow the M40 motorway until you reach Junction 8, which is the exit for Oxford.
• Follow the A40 into Oxford. This will take you to the city's ring road.
• Use a Park and Ride. Because parking is limited and restricted in the city centre, it is highly recommended that you use one of the five Park and Ride sites located on the Oxford ring road.

Park and Ride sites offer frequent bus services into the city centre and are a much more convenient option than driving into Oxford itself. However, please allow additional time to reach the meeting point outside Said Business School Park End Street, Oxford OX1 1HP (near Oxford Railway Station) by 10.30am.

Oxford Congestion Charge

A £5 Congestion charge is due to come into effect on 29/10/25 – some aspects remain unclear at the time of writing. Please consult this page prior to travelling in by car:

Please come ready in weather appropriate garments and comfortable walking shoes with good grip. The full circuit is about 8km (about 2hrs) plus visiting time if you stop.

Please come with a bottle of water, warm hat, scarf and a jumper in a small rucksack. A rain jacket may be handy as at the time of writing, they say 30 to 40% chance of rain in the morning with temperatures ranging between 8°C to 13 °C

Please arrive at St Columba’s Church, Alfred St, OX1 4EH (off High Street) for lunch and after-party by 1.30pm. There will be plenty of food and drink to warm you there!
