Talent is not rare. Ambition is not rare. Good ideas are not rare. What is rare is having the right opportunity, relationship, resource, capital, customer, information, and next step come together at the right time. That is what Owning the Block is built to change.
On January 23 from 5:00–7:00 PM at SacMade, InvestorFy is bringing Owning the Block directly into the community for an evening about something bigger than networking, bigger than another business class, and bigger than any single industry: How do we turn the people, talent, businesses, resources, and relationships already around us into real local opportunity?
This time, we have a real example.
In July, Detroit filmmaker Ronnie Kirk came to Sacramento and participated in Owning the Block. It started with a conversation. That conversation became relationships. Those relationships kept moving. Now Ronnie and the Detroit Film Club are returning to Sacramento, and earlier on January 23 they will create a local casting opportunity connected to an upcoming production.
That matters. Not simply because it is film. It matters because someone came into the room, people connected, the relationship continued, and months later an opportunity is coming back into the community.
Conversation → Connection → Action → Opportunity.
That is Owning the Block. And from 5:00–7:00 PM, we are going to break that process open.
Film is the example. Sacramento is the conversation.
What if the same thing happened with a restaurant? A construction company? A manufacturer? A technology business? A clothing brand? A developer? A neighborhood storefront? A creative entrepreneur?
How many people leave their city because they believe the opportunity they need only exists somewhere else?
How many businesses struggle while programs, capital, technical assistance, customers, government resources, and experienced people exist only a few miles away?
How many opportunities pass through a neighborhood without the people who live and work there ever knowing how to participate?
Sacramento does not suffer from a lack of talented people. And it does not suffer from a complete lack of resources. Too often, the pieces simply do not connect. Owning the Block exists to connect them.
You will not spend two hours watching successful people tell you how successful they are.
This is a working room. We start with the person.

Who in the room can genuinely help?
What can you do next?
The goal is not to meet every organization. The goal is to find the right door. Because the wrong resource can be an excellent organization and still be the wrong resource for what you need.
And we're doing this differently now.
Owning the Block is moving onto the block. January 23 takes place at SacMade because economic development should not only happen inside institutional conference rooms. It should happen inside the businesses, workshops, storefronts, creative spaces, corridors, and neighborhoods where people are actually trying to build something.
