Owen Brown Tree & Shrub Giveaway

Spring into the Season with a tree or shrub! To qualify for a free tree, you must be a property owner in the Owen Brown Association and agree to install the tree on your OB property, soon-after taking possession. Trees should be picked up Saturday April 26th. Deadline for registering is March 17, 2025.

Tree options:

Red Bud – a native tree with delicate pink blossoms in early spring and unique irregular branching patterns; max height 20’-30’ and a spread of 25’-25’ at maturity; prefers full sun to part shade.

Flowering Dogwood – a native tree with white flowers in spring and red-purple foliage in fall; glossy red fruits; max height ~25’ and a spread of 25’at maturity; prefers full sun to part shade.

Shrub options:

Sweet Azalea- Sweet Azalea is native to the eastern parts of North America. Rhododendron arborescens is a much later blooming Azalea and should be added to a succession of early, mid and late Azaleas to keep the color going all season.

Sweet Azalea is extremely hardy and has deciduous leaves that have lovely fall color. This quick growing shrub attracts native bees, while still being unattractive to deer and rabbits. Prefers partial to full Sun.

Rosebay Rhododendron- Spectacular late spring color from showy trusses of enchanting pink flowers on a vigorous, large, broadly rounded shrub with leathery, dark green foliage on red stems. Tolerates heavy shade and thrives in cooler regions but benefits from protection from winter winds. Works well as a seasonal specimen in a mixed shrub border.

Rosebay Rohododendrons are Rabbit Resistant, Tolerate Urban Pollution and Attract Butterflies.
