About this Event
Despite significant development gains in recent decades, violent conflicts persist in Africa, from the Sahel to the Horn of Africa, fueled by structural challenges and exacerbated by the current economic and political shocks from the COVID-19 pandemic and more. Nevertheless, in the shadow of the war in Ukraine, the continent and its conflicts have received relatively little attention and diplomatic engagement, despite their lethality and humanitarian costs. Former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Tibor Nagy; Viktor Marsai, director of the Budapest-based Migration Research Institute; and Klaudia Toth, researcher with the Migration Research Institute will speak to some of the ongoing conflicts in Africa, analyze their dynamics, and discuss the responsibility of external actors.
