Overjoyed: Reflections of Loved Ones

Water, alcohol, and clay-elements that are found in nature but transformed by human hands - serve as the starting point for multimedia artist Lauryn Marshall's exploration into memory and legacy. Overjoyed: Reflections of Loved Ones is her first solo exhibition and follows her on a discovery of pop culture, lesser-known histories, and comparisons of contemporary and ancestral practices within Black culture. The mediums of sculpture (ceramic and crochet) and painted works collectively tell a story of resilience.

Inspired by Blaxploitation films, sports, music, social justice leaders, and more, there are many nuances to Lauryn's storytelling. These works commemorate transformative moments in Black culture and honor loved ones lost to ensure they are never forgotten.
