OV PAINOv Pain have been described as many things over the years. The term ‘no-wave’ seems apt, granted one takes ‘no-wave’ to mean a kind of borderless, fluid, non-conforming approach to music. Their latest song set – as evidenced on Kauri Island (on Tender Collection) and the select few gigs they’ve managed to play over the last 12 months – is probably their starkest and most confidently minimal to date.

THE MISANTHROPES
The Misanthropes is a new band for Tim Evans (Degreaser, Coconuts, Bird Blobs, Sea Scouts) who has recently returned to Australia from NYC. Tim is joined by long time musical collaborators Kristian Brenchley (S:Bahn, NQR, Woman) on bass and Monika Fikerle (Crash Material, Love of Diagrams, Baseball, Sea Scouts) on drums.
Formed in early 2021 (initially as the Tim Evans Band), the band has played just 4 shows (amongst many pandemic-cancellations), and are looking to record their debut record at the end of the year.

CHRIS SMITH
Chris Smith is an Australian guitarist and songwriter, who has been operating in and around the Melbourne indie rock and experimental/noise scenes since the mid ‘90s. Playing in bands like The Golden Lifestyle Band and Substatic (with Peter Jefferies- ex This Kind of Punishment, Nocturnal Projections etc), he is better known for his solo guitar work, largely instrumental and experimental in nature. He has released 4 solo albums, the most recent being Second Hand Smoke, an extraordinary album of introspective ballads, torn up blues and hallucinatory instrumentals, through Melbourne Indie imprint It Records (Primitive Calculators, New War, Ned Collette).
