MAIN GALLERY EXHIBITION ON VIEW: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 13TH – OCTOBER 25, 2024OPENING RECEPTION: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 13TH, 2024 5-8PM
This exhibition features etchings, wood engravings and drawings that explore the process of looking at others and one’s self. The etchings depict a metamorphosis of scenes viewed through a window, capturing moments of observing others. In contrast, the engravings and drawings offer abstract interpretations derived from impressions of the artist’s body. Artwork on view is in culmination of Barbara’s three month long residency with Book Arts, working with letterpress and etching.
Barbara Rowe works primarily in printmaking using a variety of media. Her work is in the collections of the Frans Masereel Center in Belgium, Art Institute of Chicago, Castellani Museum, AKG Museum, Burchfield-Penney Art Center and several private collections. She owns a screenprint business, Abaca Press, and is professor emeritus of SUNY Niagara.
The Book Arts Studio Residency invites emerging artists to experiment with various printmaking processes in our community studio for a two month period, culminating in an exhibition of their artworks. Find out more about the residency program.
This show is made possible by the New York State Council of the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
Barbara Rowe has received a Support for Artists grant from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) to support her creative work during her residency at WNY Book Arts.
