The City of Big Sandy has an Outdoor Weather System that consists of two sirens placed within the City.The sirens are not “tornado sirens,” but rather are “all-hazard” sirens. This means that they can be sounded to warn of any significant threat to the City, including but not limited to: severe weather, hazardous materials releases and other outdoor hazards
The Outdoor Warning System is not meant to be heard indoors. It's designed to alert anyone outside that they need to get inside.
Once you're inside and safe, turn on your NOAA weather radio, TV, radio, or other news sources for more information.
The OWS (Outdoor Warning Sirens) system is tested on the first Monday of each month at 10:00 AM, weather permitting.
If you hear the sirens at any other time, it should be treated as an authentic alert.
