Out on a Limb: Textured Birch Painting Class

Slow down and spend an evening with the quiet beauty of birch trees. In this hands-on mixed media class, on a canvas you’ll build a woodland scene layer by layer, starting with a soft pastel base that sets the mood and glow of your forest.
From there, you’ll pipe modeling paste from icing tubes to sculpt raised bark, knots, and branches right on the canvas. You’ll even learn to mix acrylic paint directly into the paste for built-in color and depth. Once the texture dries, we’ll bring it to life with more acrylic, playing with light, shadow, and organic movement so your birches feel like they’re shimmering in the trees. Along the way, I’ll share my approach to observing nature and translating a feeling of place into your art.
