"There is a free-wheeling tug to Collins’ work. It was honed to perfection in Losing Ground, but here it is rawer and unsteady and that makes it even more attractive to me because it is hard to genuinely promote enthusiasm for life in cinema, especially if you are an intelligent and conscious human being."—Dennis Leroy Kangalee, The Luminal Theater
A visual poem on identity, Back Inside Herself shows a Black woman finding her own sense of self and rejecting hegemonic societal expectations of who she should be and how she should behave.
S. Pearl Sharp was a poet, actor, pioneering Black woman filmmaker who died on October 11, 2025.
Back Inside Herself is distributed by Cinenova
In The Cruz Brothers and Miss Malloy, three orphaned Puerto Rican brothers escape the concrete jungle of the Bronx to a small town in New York following their father's death during a bank robbery. Watched over by their father’s ghost, they are hired by an elderly Irish-American woman to renovate her house so she can throw one last house party.
