About this Event

About the Event

Join us for a woodland walk with a difference. This walk will be jointly organised by the Ancient Tree Forum (ATF), and will be led by the North East England ATF organising group, accompanied by botanist James Common (NHSN Senior Naturalist) and Ellie Davison NHSN (Urban Naturalist on the Ouse Burn Way). The focus of the walk will be upon identifying features of ancient woodland that still exist in the Ouseburn Valley, discussing the challenges associated with managing ageing trees in this urban environment, and thinking about the ecology of the Ouseburn woodlands.

We will…

· Identify trees and woodland flora

· Understand and determine tree categories based on characteristics such as dead wood or fungi present, closeness to roads and footpaths, and how this affects tree management.

· There will be an opportunity for those interested to measure trees using appropriate methods and add our trees to the appropriate database

To find out more about NVTP, check out Northumbria Veteran Tree Project.
