About this Event

Since its founding, Our Space, Inc. has been a pillar of support, connection, and growth for individuals in our community. Built on the belief that everyone deserves a place to belong, the organization is dedicated to fostering an environment of inclusion and empowerment. Through innovative programs, compassionate care, and a deep commitment to mental health and well-being, Our Space has touched countless lives and continues to evolve to meet the needs of those we serve.

What sets Our Space apart? Our Space doesn't just provide services - in their innovative model, staff members walk the journey with clients. Unlike other agencies, they are peer-run, meaning many of the staff member have personal experiences with their own mental health recovery. These Certified Peer Support Specialists use their lived experiences to offer guidance and understanding to people navigating mental health issues. They truly understand the challenges faced by the people they serve.

Programs are free of charge and include:

  • The original Our Space Psychological Drop-In Center: a welcoming and safe space where individuals can relax, connect, and engage with others.
  • Our Space Parachute House provides a short-term residential sanctuary for recover and wellness. As an alternative to traditional crisis intervention, clients experience a supportive environment designed to provide relief and promote stability. Private guest rooms create a comfortable, secure environment for reflection and healing.
  • Comprehensive Community Support: collaboration with individuals to create a personalized recovery plan, offering resources and support to achieve individual goals.

Melissa Wisniewski is one of the driving forces behind Our Space. She is a Certified Clinical and Peer Support Supervisor who provides clinical supervision and guidance to staff working in mental health and substance abuse settings, insuring quality of care and ethical practices. She and her colleagues will give a talk on the history of Our Space Inc., the multiple innovative programs it has developed, the services they provide, and the community partnerships and collaboration which have earned them recognition and multiple awards. We will learn of the challenges of providing this type of car and how the organization has coped in today's political environment.
