In order to retain and recruit the workers needed to guarantee each MPS classroom is fully staffed, MPS must offer competitive compensation and benefits. In each of the past seven MPS budgets, MTEA workers have organized to win a full cost of living adjustment and experience salary schedule steps. These raises have helped to retain current employees and to recruit new workers to MPS.Our raises are not guaranteed. Potential wage freezes and cuts to healthcare benefits for MPS workers in the 2026-27 school year would be detrimental to efforts to recruit and retain workers and would be a disservice to students.

MTEA members should wear MTEA Green and pack the school board auditorium on Thursday, January 22 as we make our case to the MPS School Board that they need to prioritize fully staffed schools by paying workers, not cutting wages and benefits. Filling the school board auditorium with MTEA members sends a loud and clear message that we will fight to ensure workers are respected and our students have the fully staffed classrooms and schools they deserve.
