It has been one full year since the captive orca
Sk’aliCh’elh-tenaut(Tokitae / Lolita) swam on to be with her ancestors. We can now celebrate her extraordinary legacy, and honor the healing work
that so many people did, working together, in her name.
Please join us for a free, family-friendly event where we will
•honor Lummi community leaders in the work for Sk’aliCh’elh-tenaut
•announce the Ska'liCh'elh-tenaut Legacy Scholarship at Northwest Indian College
•launch a bilingual children’s book from Chuckanut Editions about Sk'aliCh'elh-tenaut / Tokitae and the Lummi relationship to her
•move forward to protect the orcas, the salmon, and the Salish Sea
At this event in the Commons area outside the Sehome High School Theater, friends and co-hosts will be tabling with books, art, and information.
Sacred Sea is grateful to our co-hosts: Children of the Setting Sun Productions; Village Books; North Cascades Institute; Allied Arts of Whatcom County. We are grateful to be in community with other Coast Salish children's book authors including Sharayah Lane, Tammy Woodrich, and Angela Latoi.
The Xwlemi Chosen (Lummi language) / English bilingual children's book published by Chuckanut Editions, "Sa'le Q'ewet Netse-lh / Our Hearts Beat as One," is now available for pre-order in person or online at www.villagebooks.com.
