Our Hands Remember: Creative Folk Storytelling
About this Event
Not every story begins with writing.
Stories can begin with an object, a recipe, a family phrase, a tool, a repeated gesture, a place, a scar, or something that was never fully explained.
In The Stories Our Hands Remember, participants will begin with an everyday object, personal memory, familiar gesture, or meaningful place. Through guided observation, drawing, mapping, conversation, and short writing exercises, each person will develop an illustrated folk story, personal legend, future myth, story map, or spoken narrative.
The emphasis is not literary polish or public performance. The workshop recognizes that ordinary lives contain knowledge worth carrying forward.
Participants may tell their stories aloud, exchange them with a partner, display them anonymously, or keep them private. Sharing is welcomed but never required.

- Object-based storytelling
- Visual mapping and illustrated narrative
- Memory, imagination, and personal mythology
- Oral history and everyday knowledge
- Storytelling without pressure to disclose
Participants will leave with
- An illustrated story, story map, or spoken-story outline
- A set of prompts for continued storytelling
- A renewed understanding of ordinary objects as narrative archives
No writing or art experience is required. Primary materials are included.
