Oulun_Keskusta is a trio of two saxophones and a drum set founded in 2023, that plays
PÄTS (punk & jazz). They also get influence from electronic dance music and from lousy
jokes. So far the band has released two EPs, Putket (villit) and Pihlajakatu.
The players in Oulun_Keskusta, Elmeri Karjalainen (baritone saxophone), Nestori Määttänen
(tenor saxophone) and Oula Lipponen (drums) met at Oulu and started busking at the
downtown, which is also part of the backstory for the band's name. In addition to streets and
beaches Oulun_Keskusta has also played at several clubs and patios, and a few festivals.
PÄTS knows no boundaries and adjusts to
the player's mood. Music blasts acoustically
or through pedalboards with the help of a PA
system. The cornerstones are improvisation
and body rocking powers. PÄTS can
provenly be enjoyed by all age groups.
Oulun_Keskusta’s great goal is to busk in all
the municipalities in Finland. It’s great sorrow
to see busking becoming less common in
Finland, but this is something the trio wants
to change.
