Have you got a canoe, paddleboard, or kayak? Come join members from Water Rangers and Ottawa Riverkeeper to participate in this fun Ocean Week scavenger hunt on the Rideau River!Canoe (can you) find all these items? Join us in participating in a Canoe Scavenger Hunt and water testing training in celebration of Ocean Week Canada!
Bring your boat, paddles and safety gear down to the Rideau River and join us on a scavenger hunt. We'll cap off the adventure with freshwater testing using one of the Water Rangers kits (waterrangers.ca) and learning more about the great work by Ottawa Riverkeeper in the watershed.
This event is part of Ocean Week Canada, which is from June 2-11, where we're celebrating the Ocean and our connection to it. Did you know that your local river, stream or lake connects to the ocean? Through this scavenger hunt, we encourage you to use your senses to notice the beauty and health of your local waterway.
On June 1, we'll email you your scavenger hunt list.
Schedule
-Meet at the water's edge at the northeast corner of Brewer's park pond at 930am (there's a dock there)
-Walkthrough of the scavenger hunt list
-Listen to a safety chat
-Launch boats at 10 am
-Find all the things on the list!!!
-Aim to regroup near the launch point for 11 am
-Learn how to water test with the Water Rangers testkit from 11am - 12 pm
-Unload on shore at 12:30
-Post a selfie with the hashtags #waterrangers #oceanweekcan to be entered into our prize draw (for t-shirts, hats, and testkits from Ocean Week and Water Rangers). Entries will be accepted until June 11.
