Ottawa Design Club #0020 - On New Terms

Starting a new year doesn’t always feel like a reset. Sometimes it feels like standing still long enough to finally see what isn’t working anymore.

On New Terms is an evening about the quiet, complicated shifts that don’t come with clean endings. The moments when plans stall, identities blur, and the path forward isn’t obvious yet, but staying put is no longer an option.

Our speakers will share what it means to keep moving without a clear map. To navigate career detours, changing priorities, creative fatigue, and the pressure to keep producing when the shape of your life is changing underneath you.

You’ll hear about redefining success when momentum slows, choosing sustainability over urgency, and learning to trust decisions that don’t make sense on paper but feel right in your body.

Whether you’re actively rewriting your path or sitting in the tension before the next move, this night is a reminder that not every shift is loud, fast, or visible.

Sometimes it’s simply deciding to continue on your own terms.

Pascale Arpin is an Ottawa-based artist working across traditional sign painting, lettering, and oil painting. Her hand-painted lettering can be found throughout Ottawa and has received international recognition through publications and exhibitions. She now focuses on a personal oil painting practice that blends photorealism with hand-lettered techniques, and is currently developing this body of work for exhibition.

Mique is a Franco-Ontarian muralist from West Nipissing whose work brings a distinct northern perspective to walls around the world. Her murals draw from local edible and medicinal plants and northern wildlife, and are often used as tools for community engagement and alternative education. She is the host of Couleurs du Nord on TFO and has spent over a decade creating murals and working with youth through community-based arts initiatives.

Rebecca “Beccs” Champagne is an Ottawa-based storyboard and multidisciplinary artist. Her work spans animation, short films, zines, comics, and mixed media. She has contributed to projects for Netflix (Hilda), Apple TV (Pinecone & Pony), and Adult Swim (Teenage Euthanasia), and her next independent project will debut at OCAF.
