Join Gorton Pagan Moot for their 2025 Ostara celebration, here at the Monastery. What is Ostara?
Ostara is a Wiccan Sabbat celebrated at the Spring Equinox, marking the arrival of spring and symbolising fertility, rebirth, and renewal. It is named after the Germanic goddess Eostre or Ostara, who was associated with spring and dawn. The celebration focuses on balance and renewal, often symbolised by purifying the home - the origins of the 'spring clean' - as well as planting seeds for future growth. This festival is believed to have influenced the Christian holiday of Easter.
What is a Moot?
A Pagan Moot is simply a gathering. Sometimes there will be a speaker or a workshop, or sometimes we just gather for a chat. Please note that a Moot is not a ritual, it's more an informal meeting of like-minded folk!
Each Moot is different and often themed around the season or Sabbat closest to the date of the gathering.
For those looking for a more ritual-based, shamanic celebration, please feel free to attend our Spring Equinox Soirée, led by The Way of the Buzzard. Details here: https://www.themonastery.co.uk/events/spring-equinox-2025-manchester/
About Gorton Pagan Moot
Gorton Pagan Moot was established in 2017 by Interfaith Minister, Rev. David Gray, High Priestess, Vicki Kennedy and High Priest, Chris Kennedy, after we identified that there was a large Pagan population in the surrounding area with no space to gather together.
Initially based in Debdale Park, Gorton Pagan Moot moved to the Monastery at the start of last year. Since then, numbers have increased from around 15-20 people per gathering to now an average of around 30 people. The moot meets 8 times a year around the Sabbats.
Who can attend?
As always the Moot is family friendly, anyone can attend and children are very welcome.
What can I expect?
At the Ostara Moot, the group is gathering for just a chat and perhaps a Q&A session. If there are any questions that you have about any aspect of the Pagan path, bring them along and the Moot will do their best to answer them. Simply grab a cuppa from the Welcome Café and come along and meet some like minded people who are sure to become new friends!
Sunday 23rd March - 12pm – 2pm
This Ostara celebration is free to attend, but donations are gratefully received.
No need to book, just turn up on day.
